Fresh as a Daisy

My little girl is 5 years old today. She came in the middle of the night after a long labor. I had always wanted a little girl and was thrilled when she was born. She was a full-term baby, but was small enough my mom and Pinwheels needed to go shopping for some preemie outfits. She’s always had her own mind, which has caused some problems as she’s gotten older. And yet, she has a heart of gold. She’s still small enough to sit on my lap, but big enough to brush her own teeth. She’s learning to swim, ride a bike, is an expert tumbler, has a mind like a steel trap, runs like the wind, hugs with everything in her. She’s artistic, funny, stubborn, sweet, beautiful, strong-willed, loving. She’s mine (and Pinwheels’), and I’m going to keep her. I’m going to keep her until she’s strong enough to make it on her own, to take the world by force.

Happy birthday, sweet girl. We are so much alike, you and I, which causes much of our conflict. But know this, I wouldn’t trade you for anything in the world. I love you forever, Flash.
